A (Pod)cast of Thousands
Dlott, Ann Marie
Educational Leadership, v64 n7 p80-82 Apr 2007
Dlott, an instructional specialist, was a neophyte at digital broadcasting and blogging, but she could clearly see that creating podcasts would help elementary students reach a large audience and fire their motivation to do research and write. Dlott details three projects involving podcasting that she and classroom teachers launched at elementary schools in Shrewsbury, Massachusetts. Students individually researched a Midwestern state and created a podcast touting that state's virtues, collaborated with a neighboring school on a visual podcast of poetry and drawing, and created a digital audio tour showcasing historic sites in town. Their podcasts were posted on class blogs, drawing comments from classmates, distant relatives, and friends. The responses added layers of personal meaning to each project.
