This study explores professional development for school executives in a suburban school district in North Carolina. Survey research and descriptive statistics were utilized to capture demographic data and the perceptions of professional development opportunities in this setting. The knowledge level of each participant related to the school executive standards was examined. The literature review provided information related to existing school administrator professional development models, such as: state facilitated, web-based, university collaboration, university course work, and mentoring and coaching. A comprehensive professional development framework is offered to inform and support school executives based on the findings of the study. The importance of further examination on this topic is based on principal turnover, retirements, and the lack of qualified school administrators combined with the increased accountability at the federal, state, and local level.
