Looking in the Mirror: Performance Improvement for Performance Improvers
Martin, Julian; Goldsmith, Carol; Hodges, Kristin; Parskey, Peggy
Performance Improvement, v43 n2 p38-45 Feb 2004
The new Hewlett-Packard was the largest merger in technology history. During its merger, the new company faced an intense organizational change and integration of two different corporate cultures. While all these changes were occurring, its Workforce Development (WD) was also facing its own reinvention--a paradigm shift from being just a training provider to one that embraces human performance technology (HPT) with the aim to provide the company's business partners with consultative, performance-oriented solutions. In this article, the authors describe how the company's WD embarked on its journey to use HPT as a metaprocess to integrate HPT methodologies into its processes. The authors also describe how WD's Performance and Learning Solutions Lifecycle, or simply the Lifecycle, has made it possible for the company to provide a comprehensive end-to-end methodology for the creation of performance solutions.
