Consumer Education for High Schools.
New York City Board of Education, Brooklyn, NY. Bureau of Curriculum Development.
This experimental course of study for high school students was designed to prepare teenage consumers to understand the choice of products and services offered in the marketplace and to make their choices wisely. Billions of dollars annually are spent by teenagers on merchandise and services. The need for a course in consumer education is so pressing that federal, state, and city agencies are recommending its inclusion in school curriculums. This booklet presents plans for 17 different consumer education elements, each involving several lessons. Included are consumer spending, evaluation, attitudes, credit, insurance, and purchasing of a wide range of products. A list of teacher resource materials is appended. (MF)
