American Indian Studies: A Bibliographic Guide.
White, Phillip M.
This book lists sources of information available on Native Americans in the United States, Canada, and Alaska. Some sources also include information on native Hawaiians, Indians of Mexico, and Indians of Central and South America. The purpose of the guide is to provide researchers with direction and organization for selecting and using the best library sources for the study of American Indians. The order of sources presented in the guide represents a logical approach to research, and within each section, materials are arranged in order of importance. Chapters cover: (1) books; (2) guides to the literature; (3) directories; (4) encyclopedic sources; (5) bibliographies; (6) periodical indexes, abstracts, and databases; (7) newspaper indexes, abstracts, and databases; (8) American Indian periodicals, newspapers, and newsletters; (9) biographical sources; (10) dissertations and theses; (11) government publications and archival material; and (12) microform collections. Most materials were published in the United States between 1970 and 1993, and subject content ranges from ancient times to contemporary life and culture. The 385 entries include author, title, publisher, publication date, number of pages, price, Library of Congress number, ISBN or ISSN number, and annotation. A listing of Library of Congress Subject Headings, an author/title index, and a subject index are included. (LP)
