Emotional Wellness Needs: Older Adults in Rural Communities
Russ, Randall
Journal of Family and Consumer Sciences, v101 n4 p33-37 2009
The importance of emotional wellness for rural older adults is a topic of growing significance. Older adults, now the fastest growing United States population sector, have special wellness needs. By the year 2030, about 70 million people will be over the age of 65. A low or declining sense of control over one's life increases depression. Emotional wellness can be addressed by helping seniors develop confidence in managing their health. Community centers that integrate emotional wellness services with outreach activities and education will gain the ability to serve the diverse needs of rural older adults.
