The School Counsellor: An Essential Partner in Today's Coordinated School Health Climate
Henry, Jean; McNab, Warren; Coker, J. Kelly
Guidance & Counselling, v20 n3-4 p102-108 Spr-Sum 2005
Youth today face many health, educational, and social challenges not experienced at such epidemic levels by previous generations of young people. By providing collaborative, comprehensive services that address student needs and promote learning and healthy development, a coordinated school health team can help students succeed in school, as well as make schools a safer, more positive place to learn. This article articulates the practical professional commonalties in which the school counsellor, in concert with the health educator, school nurse, and other members of the school health team, can address the many health needs of school children in today's public schools. The school counsellor is an essential partner in achieving this goal in today's challenging coordinated school health climate. (Contains 1 table, and 2 figures.)
