Student Services Review: Grossmont College Disabled Student Programs and Services.
Lee, Mimi; Mueler, Toni
An overview is provided of the support services and special activities provided by Grossmont College's Disabled Student Programs and Services (DSPS). Following introductory material on the philosophy and objectives of the DSPS, the report describes the methods used to identify the instructional development and support needs of DSPS students during the intake and verification process. After listing the instructional development classes available to DSPS students, the report discusses funding considerations, equipment needs, and enrollments. The next sections focus on the tutoring and assessment services available to DSPS students through the campus's tutoring and assessment offices, program coordination, and DSPS students' use of these services. The final sections look at DSPS programs for physically, communicatively, and learning disabled (LD) students. For each student group, the report lists the classes and services provided and the qualifications of the participating staff members. With respect to the physically disabled, the report considers the services available to mobility impaired, visually impaired, hearing impaired, health impaired, and acquired brain injured students. Classes for the communicatively impaired are described, including the stuttering, oral motor speech, stroke, pragmatics and communication, and aural rehabilitation classes. Finally, services for LD students are examined, including comprehensive diagnostic assessment, one-to-one tutoring, a support group, and several specially designed classes. (WJT)
