The aim of the Student Apprenticeship Scheme described here is to produce trained engineers primarily for positions at collieries (coal mines). This involves not only practical and theoretical training in the various disciplines but also management training to enable the engineer to control manpower and to understand the planning and organization required to operate the collieries as efficient integrated units.
