Coaching Adolescent Athletes
VonMeter, Kerby
Strategies: A Journal for Physical and Sport Educators, v17 n6 p17-19 Jul-Aug 2004
Coaching adolescent athletes can be challenging because of their varying degrees of physical, emotional, and social development and/or maturity. How much and how well each athlete develops tactically, psychologically, emotionally, and physically is directly influenced by these factors. This article discusses that the main reasons athletes participate are skill mastery, having fun, relatedness, physical fitness, and self-esteem. Here, the author presents some of the strategies coaches can use to support the reasons why athletes choose to participate. (Contains 1 table.)
