College Students' News Gratifications, Media Use, and Current Events Knowledge.
Vincent, Richard C.; Basil, Michael D.
Journal of Broadcasting and Electronic Media, v41 n3 p380-92 Sum 1997
Results of testing uses and gratifications theory with college students show students' media use and surveillance needs increase college year. Demographic differences and gratifications sought drive news media use. Surveillance needs result in increased use of all news media, whereas entertainment needs result in television news and CNN viewing. Only print media and CNN use are related to current events knowledge. (Author/AEF)
