Ruder, Robert
Principal Leadership, v9 n4 p51-53 Dec 2008
Sometimes a principal just has to get out of the office. A walk around the building might provide an escape from the pace of a hectic day, a chance to clear the head and perhaps allow a new perspective on a seemingly monumental school-related challenge to emerge. Wherever the principal walks, he or she is able to identify things that need attention. With an open eye, an attentive ear, and a fully functioning nose, a principal can generate a list of items that relate to almost every component of school life, including the cleanliness of the lavatories and how school buses are parked for student pick-up at dismissal time. In this article, the author discusses the importance of roaming the school and the areas a principal should be sure to roam.
