Chinese Vocational Education: Borrowing and Reforming
Wang, Lei; Jiang, Dayuan
Chinese Education and Society, v46 n4 p92-99 Jul-Aug 2013
In July 2010 in Beijing, Lei Wang interviewed Professor Dayuan Jiang, Research Fellow at the Ministry of Education's Central Institute for Vocational and Technical Education about how China has drawn from foreign vocational education models and China's own innovation process. Jiang pointed out that Germany's educational philosophy and talent development model has had a great impact on China as it has drawn upon the extensive experience and results of vocational education in developed countries for its own reforms. Based on what it has learned and on China's national conditions and the needs of its socialist market economy, China's vocational education model is likely to be school-centered and adjusted based on market demand. It is a market mechanism with Chinese characteristics and an integrated model that puts people first. Finally, Jiang expressed his views on the pessimism of some scholars with regard to vocational education.
