To reduce the amount of mail that makes it to one's desk, the author suggests using the "Chicken Pox" technique to limit the number of times a piece of mail is handled. With this technique, it is not necessary to make an immediate decision regarding the mail, but the dot in the upper corner keeps track of how many times each piece of mail has been handled.
