Student Aggression: Prevention, Management, and Replacement Training.
Goldstein, Arnold P.; And Others
American society is violent, a fact which is well-reflected in schools. This book, designed specifically for school personnel, presents the primary techniques currently being employed by educators to prevent, manage, and replace student aggression. The volume opens with a description of the origins of aggressive behavior and offers some theoretical thoughts on prevention. The bulk of the book explores various, practical interventions for aggression, student-oriented interventions and system-oriented interventions. Some fundamental causes of aggression are examined. Some of the student-oriented tactics discussed in part 2 include psychological skills training, behavior modification, psychodynamic and humanistic interventions and gang-oriented interventions. In part 3, violence is treated as a systems problem. The system is portrayed in tripartite fashion: teacher, school, and family. The writers examine personal and impersonal factors; they offer detailed guidelines for changing the behavior of peers, school personnel, and family members, as well as offer advice on how to modify academic curricula and ways to transform a school's physical features. They also describe how to integrate administrative systems, security personnel, family members, community programs, and various agencies into response and prevention networks.
