Creativity isn't formally assessed or evaluated on tests or report cards, so teachers rarely plan lessons that encourage it. In fact, many teachers unintentionally stifle children's creativity when they cut off student's oral responses or stop them from adding more to their work so that they can bring the class back to the task at hand. Instead, they should find ways to celebrate imagination and encourage youngsters to think outside the box. Parents and teachers need to motivate children to enjoy writing and reading. Display children's writing to show their thinking is valued. Hanging a child's words on the refrigerator or classroom bulletin board provides him or her with a sense of pride and a boost of confidence, which will, in turn, promote creative thinking. Further stimulate creativity by sharing captivating and innovative literature.
