Change Strategies and Disabled Persons: Postsecondary Education and Beyond. National Conference (2nd, Dayton, Ohio, October 3-6, 1978).
Marx, Pat, Ed.; Hall, Perry, Ed.
The document presents proceedings on the second national conference on the physically disabled student at the postsecondary level. Specific conference objectives were: (1) to develop an understanding of the impact of attitudes on service to design and delivery and to identify effective techniques for attitude development; (2) to identify methods for consumer involvement in program development, implementation, and evaluation; (3) to develop methods for integrating services into an established university system; and (4) to develop recommendations for increased involvement by employers in long range student development. Thirty-seven presentations are divided into the seven categories--preconference, keynote address, resources on attitudes, physical support services, academic services, employment, and university administration. Among the titles and authors involved are the following: "Student Organizations: How to Get Them Started and Keep Them Going" (P. Deitch); "Successful Access of Postsecondary Programs by Disabled Persons: Examining the Impact of Attitudes" (D. Linkowski); "A Model for Peer Counseling with Disabled Students" (M. Kocher); "Integrating the Arts: A Curriculum Approach" (G. Barlow, et al.); "Career Planning and Placement Strategies for the Severely Physically Disabled College Student" (M. Breslin); and "Impacting the Administrative System--Developing Administrative Support" (R. Conley). Final sections offer a conference evaluation and a list of participants. Appended are the conference agenda and conference survey forms. (SB)
