Designed to indicate the reasons behind viewer program preferences, this 32nd report of an annual opinion poll presents the results of a survey which asked 914 participants to evaluate 3,584 television programs they liked, did not like, and/or to evaluate new programs. Tables summarize the reasons why programs were selected by viewers, their perceptions of the technical and overall quality of the programs, and how much they were liked, as well as kinds of programs monitors would like to see more of. Viewer ratings and comments are presented separately for adults and youth, and by ratings of excellent, good, fair or poor for a number of prime time network programs: The A Team, Airwolf, Benson, Cagney and Lacey, Charles in Charge, Call to Glory, Cheers, The Cosby Show, Dallas, Diff'rent Strokes, Dreams, Dukes of Hazzard, Dynasty, E/R, Facts of Life, Fall Guy, Fame, Family Ties, Highway to Heaven, Hill Street Blues, It's Your Move, The Jeffersons, Jessie, Kate and Allie, Knight Rider, Knots Landing, Love Boat, Magnum P.I., Miami Vice, Murder She Wrote, Newhart, Paper Dolls, Partners in Crime, Punky Brewster, Remington Steele, Riptide, Scarecrow and Mrs. King, Simon and Simon, St. Elsewhere, Three's Company/Three's a Crowd, V, Webster, and Who's the Boss? Also rated are news programs, public television, children's programs, daytime dramas, talk shows, sports and cable programs, and special movies and mini-series. (JB)
