The Sneaky Sneaker Spies and the Mysterious Black Ink
Savran, Michelle
SchoolArts: The Art Education Magazine for Teachers, v111 n9 p20-21 May-Jun 2012
In this article, the author describes the process of making "The Sneaky Sneaker Spies and the Mysterious Black Ink," a six-minute animation starring five art students who form a detective club. This animation is available online for art teachers to use in their own classrooms. After showing this video in class, art teachers could have students try out the drawing activity that the Sneaky Sneaker Spies demonstrate. In this activity, students search for interesting marks around the room and record them in their sketchbooks. It requires little additional instruction after viewing the video, as students would have just seen the Sneaky Sneaker Spies model how it is done. Students will need their sketchbooks or a sheet of paper, a pencil, and a clipboard. This video was intended to introduce specific art concepts to students in a fun way. Students should watch this video and walk away with an understanding of how to observe their surroundings more closely and how to work creatively through mistakes. (Contains 2 online resources.)
