Behavioral Disorders: Identification, Assessment, and Instruction of Students with EBD. Advances in Special Education. Volume 22
Bakken, Jeffrey P., Ed.; Obiakor, Festus E., Ed.; Rotatori, Anthony F., Ed.
Advances in Special Education (MS)
Volumes 22 and 23 of "Advances in Special Education" address the current top perspectives and issues in the field of EBD by providing chapters written by active researchers and scholarly university professors who specialize in this area. Volume 22 first delineates legal issues, themes, and dimensions related to the historical development of the EBD field. Then this volume addresses best practices for the assessment and placement of students with EBD. These discussions are followed by innovative examinations of critical issues that have faced the field of EBD for many years such as the disproportionate placement of culturally and linguistically diverse learners with EBD, prevention strategies for at-risk students with EBD and the dilemma of instructing English language learners with EBD. The volume concludes with comprehensive discussions of instructional issues such as the effective use of behavioral modification techniques to develop appropriate behavior, the need to differentiate instruction to produce positive academic change and a rational for using multidimensional intervention choices for culturally linguistic learners with EBD. Following a preface by Jeffrey P. Bakken, Festus E. Obiakor, and Anthony F. Rotatori, chapters presented in this volume include: (1) Legal Issues and Teachers of Students with Emotional and Behavioral Disorders (Mitchell L. Yell, Shelley L. Neilsen Gatti); (2) Themes and Dimensions of Emotional and Behavioral Disorders (April L. Mustian, Yojanna Cuenca-Sanchez); (3) Assessment of Students with Emotional and Behavioral Disorders (Cynthia A. Plotts); (4) Placement of Students with Emotional and Behavioral Disorders (Sarup R. Mathur, Kristine Jolivette); (5) Placement of Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Students in Programs for Students with Emotional and Behavioral Disorders: Contemporary Trends and Research Needs (Alfredo J. Artiles, Aydin Bal, Stanley C. Trent, Kathleen King Thorius); (6) Prevention of and Early Intervention for Students with Emotional and Behavioral Disorders: Systems to Support Data-Based Decision Making (Timothy J. Lewis, Barbara S. Mitchell); (7) English Language Learners and Emotional Behavioral Disorders (Diana L. Rogers-Adkinson, Theresa A. Ochoa, Stacy L. Weiss); (8) Behavior Modification/Traditional Techniques for Students with Emotional and Behavioral Disorders (Paul Mooney, Joseph B. Ryan, Philip L. Gunter, R. Kenton Denny); (9) Differentiated Instruction for Students with Emotional and Behavioral Disorders (Christy Borders, Stacey Jones Bock, Nichelle Michalak); and (10) Hobson's Choice: Illusory Intervention Choice for Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Learners with Problem Behaviors (Festus E. Obiakor). [Series editor, Anthony F. Rotatori.
