Diplomas Count: An Essential Guide to Graduation Policy and Rates
Edwards, Virginia B., Ed.
Education Week, v25 n41S Jun 2006
"Education Week" provides a weekly review of state and federal K-12 education policy news. In this issue it offers detailed data on graduation rates across the 50 states and the District of Columbia, and in the nation's 50 largest school districts. The analysis is based on the Cumulative Promotion Index developed by Christopher B. Swanson, the director of the Editorial Projects in Education (EPE) Research Center and a prominent expert on graduation data. This special issue of "Education Week" includes the following articles: (1) The Down Staircase (Lynn Olson); (2) Costs of Not Graduating Tallied by Researchers; (3) GED Battery No Substitute for Diploma (Patrick Miller); (4) Mapping Out High School Graduation; (5) Charts: The High School Pipeline; (6) Adding It All Up (David J. Hoff); (7) Opening Doors (Lynn Olson); (8) A Road Map to State Graduation Policies (Sterling C. Lloyd); and (9) Student Profiles (Catherine Gewertz). Individual articles contain references, tables, and figures. [For the May 2006 special issue of "Education Week," see EJ737140.]
