The Atlanta University Center (AUC) comprises five historically black colleges and a centralized library. All are separate institutions, each having its own board of directors, president, infrastructure, students, faculty, staff, and traditions. To encourage coordination of effort and resources, the AUC was formed and the first formal cooperative agreement signed in 1929. The consortia foster an environment in which partners and members pool their resources to accomplish mutual goals. One of the mutual goals of the AUC is to increase access for minorities who will receive college degrees in engineering, math, science, and technology. The Dual Degree Engineering Program is offered to the undergraduates at Clark Atlanta University, Morehouse College, and Spelman College. This chapter describes AUC's Dual Degree Engineering Program and the model used to increase the number of minorities in engineering, science, and technology through consortia. (Contains 1 exhibit.)
