The Write Stuff
Ewens, David
Adults Learning, v19 n9 p16-17 May 2008
Deciding to enroll in a creative writing class, a quick web-search by this author revealed that there were classes in the local adult education college, run by an independent writing school. The author met one of the tutors, discussed his needs, and found himself enrolled in a short- story writing class. As it happened, so smitten was he that he followed it with a course on starting a novel. In this article, the author describes how he discovered truth, beauty, and the art of story writing through adult learning classes. He describes the many benefits of adult learning, including: (1) better value; (2) access to expert, skilled, and enthusiastic professional writers and tutors; (3) a comfortable, inclusive and welcoming environment; and (4) the chance to meet new people and make new friends.
