Dinosaurs on the Ark: The Creation Museum
Asma, Stephen T.
Chronicle of Higher Education, v53 n37 pB10 May 2007
In this article, the author describes the Creation Museum, founded by Ken A. Ham and designed as a rebuttal to the evolutionary view taken by other natural history museums. He discusses the socially conservative roots of the museum's exhibits, and presents Ham's answers to questions about the museum. The message of the museum is that the Bible is literally true, and it uses pseudoscientific reasoning to convince visitors of this viewpoint. Drawing on the history of natural history museums as a collection of oddities, the author maintains that the Creation Museum has value for those who "take a guilty pleasure in quackery," but that it may be dangerous to young children who are unprepared to critically assess it.
