These resource papers encourage the student to discover for himself the contributions to a problem made through original literature. Since some of the papers are controversial or contradict others, the student will need to evaluate these papers to determine his correct approach or position. It is hoped that these papers will also foster an appreciation of the work of the scientists involved. The document begins with two surveys of the scope of the world food problem and goes on to examine suggested solutions. Next the controversial paper, "Politics of Protein," maintains that the United States is diverting protein from the hungry to feed animales and is exploiting the underdeveloped nations through economic and political policies. Following this are five papers that examine new, or not so new, solutions. The final two papers examine malnutrition, the damage it does to human beings, where it exists, what has been done, and what still needs to be done. (LS)
