This book offers guidelines for school district authorities in establishing or expanding the role of districtwide risk management and gives direction for the development of individual school-based risk-management programs. Part 1 relates fundamental constructs of risk management to school site-level and district-level management. Chapters address the issues of risk management and insurance, the relationship of risk management to education, and the organization of a comprehensive risk-management program. Part 2 demonstrates the application of these fundamental constructs to specific areas of concern--specifically, programs for personnel, environmental, and safety management--and discusses problem-identification areas and their implications for risk management. The third part deals with related issues--workers' compensation, alternative dispute resolution, countersuit and frivolous litigation, community use of facilities and grounds, and healthy buildings--and their implications.
