Fingers Make a Comeback in Math
Brooks, Andree
New York Times, Sec13, 19, Jan 8 1978
Describes a new idea in finger-counting developed by 31 year old Hang Young Pai, a Korean teacher living in New York. It is called Chisanbop and it comes from a more advanced hand-calculation system used in the Orient in conjunction with the abacus. It is applicable for both elementary students and for more advanced mathematical applications, such as those used by tax accountants. (Author/RK)
