Wise, Holistic Thinking: An Interview with James H. Borland

This article presents an interview with James H. Borland, Professor of Education in the Department of Curriculum and Teaching at Teachers College, Columbia University, where he directs the graduate programs in the education of gifted students. Dr. Borland is the author of numerous books, book chapters, journal articles, and miscellanea. He has won two Paper of the Year awards from the "Gifted Child Quarterly" (with Lisa Wright and with Lisa Wright and Rachel Schnur) and has twice won the Award for Excellence in Research from the Mensa Education and Research Foundation. He has lectured and consulted on the education of gifted students across the United States and abroad. In this interview, Dr. Borland shares the reasons that led him to the field of gifted education. He also shares some of his thinking along the lines of the assumptions in the field of gifted education.
