This learning module has two main goals: (1) to increase students' knowledge and understanding of the often complex relationship between sustainable development and the social, economic, and environmental conditions in a country; and (2) to strengthen students' ability to perform statistical calculations, make and interpret maps, charts, and tables, as well as analyze and synthesize information to make inferences and generalizations and to think critically when analyzing information, making decisions, and solving problems. This learning module focuses specifically on environmental issues, particularly access to safe water. The teaching units in the module contain a full range of questions, activities, and exercises.
