Vocational Staff Workshops Project (and) Celebrate Great Counseling [Workshop] Addendum. Project Number: 88-0484.
Mount San Antonio Community Coll. District, Walnut, CA.; McGillicuddy (Shirley) & Associates, Sierra Madre, CA.
Workshops and related staff development activities designed for vocational education instructors, administrators, career counselors, and support services staff are described in this two-part report. Part I focuses on the Vocational Staff Workshops (VSW) project, indicating that its key objectives were to identify regional in-service training priorities of instructors, administrators, and support services staff not being met through local staff development efforts; to plan, promote, conduct, and evaluate a variety of in-service activities for a target population of at least 500 professionals representing at least 75% of the 107 California community colleges; to provide at least four regional workshops focused on high risk, non-traditional, and/or culturally different student populations; to provide on-site consultive services to encourage colleges to replicate VSW in-service activities; and to conduct a follow-up study of all participants. Part II reviews the Celebrate Great Counseling (CGC) Workshop Addendum, indicating that its objective was to provide 3 to 4 days of leadership development activities for 24 community college vocational counselors. For both projects, anticipated and actual project outcomes, major project activities, and evaluation methods are explored. Appendixes provide materials on the following individual workshops: Total Quality Management; Statewide Student Follow-up System (SSFS) Technical Implementation; Contract Education: A National View Teleconference; Celebrate Great Teaching in Vocational Education; and Disadvantaged Workshops Project. Workshop abstracts, evaluations, and a list of participants are included. (JMC)
