A Snapshot of Teacher Supply and Demand in Alberta, 1989-90. Results of the Conference of Alberta School Superintendents' Survey on Teacher Hiring.
Alberta Dept. of Education, Edmonton. Planning Services Branch.
This paper on teacher hiring for 1989-90 addresses differences among the geographic regions of the province of Alberta, as well as the differences between the urban and rural school boards regarding the proportion of new teachers on staff, teacher turnover, teacher vacancies, teacher recruitment, teacher mobility, teacher hiring by specialty areas, and the age and gender of teachers hired. A map is provided showing the education zones and the urban centers in Alberta. The report is divided into five chapters: (1) an executive summary; (2) introduction; (3) implications of the results of the Conference of Alberta School Superintendents' Survey (CASS) Survey; (4) highlights of the results of the CASS Survey; and (5) a provincial summary of superintendents comments. Appendixes A-J include provincial results; comments and results from major urban boards and zones 1-6; the survey instrument; and information on the Alberta Teaching Force, 1981-1990. (LL)
