This workbook is organized around 15 guidelines for improving health care for foreign students in the United States and U.S. students abroad. Each guideline is described in a chapter followed by self-assessment questions enabling the evaluation of the adequacy of campus health programs. Each chapter concludes with an invitation to outline goals and objectives for future improvement. Chapters have the following titles: (1) "Creating a Network for Collaboration"; (2) "Understanding Cultural Differences"; (3) "Promoting Health Awareness"; (4) "Improving Orientation Programs"; (5) "Overcoming Challenges in Health Care for Foreign Students" (tropical medicine, immunization and tuberculosis policies and protocols, hepatitis B care, dental and eye care, gynecological care, nutrition, sexually transmitted diseases and Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome, and health promotion and prevention); (6) "Encouraging Student Participation in the Health-Care System"; (7) "Integrating Cultural Beliefs into Health Care for Foreign Students"; (8) "Overcoming Language and Communication Difficulties"; (9) "Understanding the Special Needs of Foreign Women"; (10) "Facilitating Health Care for Dependents"; (11) "Encouraging Adequate Health Insurance Coverage"; (12) "Preparing Students for Reentry"; (13) "Preparing U.S. Students for Study Abroad" (orientation, health-care and student-health services abroad, culture shock and reentry, policies on immunizations, tuberculosis and Human Immunodeficiency Virus testing, travel clinics, and health insurance); (14) "Implementing Data Collection and Research on Foreign-Student Health Needs and Services"; and (15) "Enrichment Through Professional Associations."
