Toys for Tots in Your Technology and Engineering Program
Berkeihiser, Mike
Technology and Engineering Teacher, v75 n4 p14-16 Dec 2015-Jan 2016
Most technology and engineering (T&E) classes are elective, so teachers are always looking for ways to market programs, engage students, and remind administrators and school board members about the good things T&E teachers do with and for kids. In this article, the Unionville High School (PA) Technology and Engineering Department describes to what great lengths it has gone to market its program and engage students. The article reports on the nearly decade-long partnership with "Toys for Tots," because it has not only been extremely fun and rewarding for students, but has generated positive press and goodwill. This partnership of making toys fits so well with the technology and engineering curriculum, from design to completion, that this community outreach activity is a fun way for students to apply what they are learning.
