Building Trades.
Gudzak, Raymond
This curriculum guide provides materials for a competency-based course in building trades at the secondary level. The curriculum design uses the curriculum infused model for the teaching of basic skills as part of vocational education and demonstrates the relationship of vocationally related skills to communication, mathematics, and science knowledge. Basic skills matrices are provided that indicate the curriculum in which each skill is studied. A list of course objectives precedes the curriculum. Course materials are divided into units, each of which correlates task, theory, communication skills, mathematics skills, science knowledge, and student outcomes. Units include careers, safety, hand tools, power tools, fixed power tools, building materials, leveling instrument, blueprint reading, plans specification codes, footing and foundation, framing floor members, framing wall and ceiling, framing roof members, exterior surface, window and exterior doors, exterior wall finish, thermal and sound insulations, interior wall and ceiling finish, and stair construction.
