This directory is designed to provide a comprehensive, up-to-date source of information on governmental and private organizations concerned with environmental quality in the United States and Canada. The book is divided into five major parts: the User's Guide, sections for U.S., Canadian, and international organizations, and the indexes. The principal entry for an organization is given a unique entry number. Allowing for minor modifications due to the individual character of each organization, entries contain the following information: (1) name of organization; (2) address, telephone number, and Telex or TWX number; (3) titles and names of key personnel; (4) description of functions and activities; (5) publications; and (6) Regional offices, chapters, and subsidiary groups. Four indexes provide access by subject, organization, personnel, and publication title. References are to entry numbers. Emphasis is given to organizations that influence, formulate, or administer public policy, or that conduct research or information programs oriented toward solving public problems. Generally excluded are groups whose programs are limited to formal education or scientific research. Also excluded are groups organized for profit or interested in environmental issues only from a narrow economic perspective. (Author/MA)
