Personal, Seasonal Suns
Sutley, Jane
Arts & Activities, v147 n5 p22-23 Jun 2010
This article presents an art project designed for upper-elementary students to (1) imagine visual differences in the sun's appearance during the four seasons; (2) develop ideas for visually translating their personal experiences regarding the seasons to their sun drawings; (3) create four distinctive seasonal suns using colors and imagery to communicate the sun's appearance and their own personal association with the season; (4) increase their fine motor skills by using a compass or circular template; and (5) familiarize themselves with the concept of radial symmetry. The ubiquity of anthropomorphized suns in one's pop culture and the sun's simple circular shape planted the seed for this project.
