Winning at the Publication Game
McDaniel, Thomas R.; Childers, Pamela B.
Clearing House: A Journal of Educational Strategies, Issues and Ideas, v84 n5 p171-173 2011
Prospective authors submitting articles to "The Clearing House" ("TCH") or other professional journals should realize that publishing success depends, in part, on game strategies. This article by the Executive Editors of "TCH" identifies 10 strategies, based on metaphors from competitive sports, that can help authors win at the publication game. The authors hope these suggestions are helpful if one is thinking about submitting a manuscript to them (or other journals). Writing for publication is a game--but also more than a game. It is an opportunity that takes effort, teamwork, some risk, and sometimes a little luck. But it is a chance to turn an idea, a piece of research, or a practical experience into a publishable article that refines and develops one's own knowledge (and perhaps reputation), while making a contribution to one's colleagues in the profession.
