Academic and Personal Development through Group Work: An Exploratory Study
Steen, Sam
Journal for Specialists in Group Work, v36 n2 p129-143 2011
This exploratory study linked academic and personal development within a group counseling intervention. A pre-test post-test research design compared social skills, learning behaviors, and achievement with a convenience sample and control group of students from three elementary schools. For the treatment group, grade point average in Language Arts was significantly higher than for the control group. However, none of the other variables was statistically significant. Implications for school counselors and future research are explored. (Contains 2 tables.)
