Librarians discuss the library use of computers without concerning themselves with the technical aspects of computer software or hardware at this Library Automation Research and Consulting (LARC) Association institute. The first paper, "State of the Art Review," examines some of the fundamental problems of automated serials control, and speculates on the extent to which solutions can be found. "The National Serials Data Program," its organization and development, is the topic of the second presentation. Other papers are: "Management Problems of the Network Manager,""Serline: On-Line Serials Bibliographic and Locator System,""The Problems of Entering a Computerized Serials Network; or the Validity of Murphy's Law," and "Case Study of the Computer Assisted Serials System at the University of California, San Diego. Four papers are presented on the Periodical Holdings in Library School of Medicine (PHILSOM) network: "The Coordinator's Viewpoint,""A Programmer/Analyst's View,""Maintenance and Design," and "A User Library Viewpoint."
