Segmented Assimilation and Minority Cultures of Mobility.
Neckerman, Kathryn M.; Carter, Prudence; Lee, Jennifer
Ethnic and Racial Studies, v22 n6 p945-65 Nov 1999
Considers how the experiences of middle class minorities might alter current models of second-generation incorporation, proposing that minority middle classes share a minority culture of mobility (cultural elements responsive to distinctive problems of interracial encounters in public settings and interclass relations within minority communities). This is illustrated via a case study of the African American middle class. (SM)
