Beyond Curriculum Reform: Confronting Medicine's Hidden Curriculum.
Hafferty, Frederic W.
Academic Medicine, v73 n4 p403-07 Apr 1998
Discusses the existence of three curricula in medical schools (formal, informal, and hidden) and suggests that educators and administrators investigate the hidden curriculum by examining four areas: institutional policies; evaluation practices; resource-allocation decisions; and institutional "slang." Needed reforms in accreditation standards are also explored. Three recommendations are made for moving beyond conventional reform to create a learning environment. (Author/MSE)
