Innovation in Inservice Education and Training of Teachers. Practice and Theory.
Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development, Paris (France). Centre for Educational Research and Innovation.
Representatives from ten nations met to exchange experiences and information on the role attached to the Inservice Education and Training (INSET) needs of teachers. Four principal aims were defined for this report: (1) to summarize and synthesize the main findings from the first phase of a project on innovative approaches to the INSET of teachers, which presented the results of surveys of country experience and a previously held international seminar; (2) to identify some of the key policy issues that emerge from this first phase; (3) to explore the utility of certain theoretical ideas by rooting the synthesis in a provisional conceptual framework for continuing professional development in education; and (4) to identify ways in which the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development might usefully contribute to future work in the field of INSET. Appended are a bibliography of national reports, case studies of innovative approaches to INSET, and a provisional conceptual framework for INSET. (JD)
