Secondary School Science and Logical Thinking.
Strickland, A. W.
The goal of this project was to disseminate materials and information contained in two projects previously funded by the National Science Foundation. "Science Teaching and the Development of Reasoning" (Robert Karplus) and "The Cognitive Analysis Project" (John Renner) were the project materials disseminated in a two-phase effort. The first phase focused on creating sub-centers in four states (Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky, and Illinois), training the directors of these sub-centers, and directing their energies toward secondary school dissemination. Phase two dealt with the task of preparing and completing the dissemination effort to public and private secondary school teachers in the four state area. The project provided aid to secondary school teachers in understanding the reasoning levels of secondary school science students (grades 7-12), using Piagetian stages of logical reasoning.
