Making sure law enforcement officers are current with their professional training has always been a top priority of police departments whether they must protect a city or a college campus. However, as training has expanded with many new certification categories, tracking all of these for each officer has grown more complex. This has prompted many campus police departments to move away from manual tracking of officers' records to automation via specialized software. Using the Skills Manager software from Crown Pointe Technologies, Inc., Sam Hannigan, Town University police department's training coordinator, was able to download a lot of his agency's police records from the commission. He said it gave him a running database to start with. In addition, using Skills Manager, a campus police department can track personnel certifications, training and firearms qualifications plus employment and continuing education.
