Productivity and Capital Goods.
Zicht, Barbara, Ed.; And Others
Elementary Economist, v3 n2 1981-82
Providing teacher background on the concepts of productivity and capital goods, this document presents 3 teaching units about these ideas for different grade levels. The grade K-2 unit, "How Do They Do It?," is designed to provide students with an understanding of how physical capital goods add to productivity. Activities include a field trip to observe capital in use, a card matching game, cookie baking, a concentration game, a capital contest, a puzzle story page, and a hands-on bulletin board. The grade 3-4 unit, "Who Needs It?," helps students gain an understanding of the factors of production, and the relationship between technology, productivity, and natural resource use. "Paper Cup Factory," the grade 5-6 unit, introduces the concepts of productivity, specialization, and technology through the construction of paper cups, an anagram puzzle, a worksheet structured to illustrate cause and effect, and a crossword puzzle featuring economic terms presented in the unit.
