American Association for the Advancement of Science, Washington, DC.
This update reports on the highlights of a year-long evaluation of the influence of "Science for All Americans" and "Benchmarks for Science Literacy", two landmark publications of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS). Data for the evaluation were collected through expert interviews, reviews of state science curriculum frameworks and textbooks, telephone and mail surveys, and case studies of reform activities in six states. The areas summarized from the larger report include national impact, state impact, individual impact, establishing a strong foundation for change, tools for change, putting learning goals to work, shaping the national agenda, guiding reform in the United States, and long-term visions. The projects described and used as examples within this report are from the states of Georgia, Rhode Island, Indiana, Pennsylvania, Texas, California, and Massachusetts. (DDR)
