Practical Suggestions to Accommodate the Needs of Muslim Students on Campus
Ali, Saba Rasheed; Bagheri, Elham
New Directions for Student Services, n125 p47-54 Spr 2009
Given the internal and external challenges Muslim students face, it is important that student affairs practitioners find ways to assist Muslim students in their adherence to their religion as they pursue their degree. In this chapter, the authors present a brief introduction to Islamic tenets, discuss challenges facing Muslim college students, and offer practical strategies and suggestions for student affairs practitioners to better assist Muslim students. Specific suggestions are given on what student affairs professionals can do to combat hostility toward Islamic religious groups through the use of dialogue and to create safe spaces for Muslim students to engage in spiritual exploration.
