Much educational literature and professional development deals with issues of African American, Hispanic or Latino, Native American, and low-income groups. However, religious diversity is rarely discussed among educators. There is not much literature on the experiences of Muslim children and families and research on the teaching and learning of Muslim students. The Muslim population often appears invisible and misunderstood in American society. Indeed, it is a fast-growing religious group in the United States. In this article, the author provides information that helps readers to resolve stereotypes and misconceptions about Muslims and deepens their understanding of and appreciation for Islamic values. First, the author reviews the general demographic information on religions. Second, she describes Muslims in the United States and the diversity of the Muslim population. Finally, she reviews Muslim students and parents' values in an educational setting.
