Science and Technology of Water Lifting Devices. Teaching of Science and Technology in Rural Areas.
Rao, P. Ramachandra; Rao, N. R. Nagaraja
Most science curriculum innovations seem to have their origins and emphases in urban intellectual concerns and their content generally caters to university bound students. The reason for the failure of rural students in science subjects may be the lack of relevancy of the program to the needs of individuals living in rural areas. Chapter 1 of this module describes the importance of, and sources of, water lifting and transportation. Chapter 2 discusses physical work including measurement of work and power, mechanical energy including potential energy, kinetic energy, energy transformation, moment of force, centrifugal reaction, pressure, and hydrostatics, with 14 activities. Chapter 3 describes the features of devices that use muscular energy and mechanical energy, with six activities, and provides scopes for improvement of the devices. Test questions and assignments are provided at the end of each chapter. (YP)
