The Role of Community Viability Analysis in Revealing the Elements Contributing to Sense of Place: A Case Study of Olsburg, Kansas.
Mattson, Gary
Small Town, v26 n4 p14-23 Jan-Feb 1996
Community vitality is no longer tied to economic diversity. Community viability analysis provides a broader perspective by considering community self-image and social activities. Horizontal linkages, social solidarity, threshold values, and community catchment areas are explained and applied to an analysis that shows small towns such as Olsburg (Kansas) can remain viable if they retain a sense of place.
